Thanks for Nothing

I’ve always had mixed feelings about Thanksgiving. On one hand, I liked that it was a secular holiday that really wan’t about anything but eating. Then I developed eating disorders and it became a  troublesome holiday.

Also, there’s the whole rape and pillage of Native Americans thing. That kind of puts a damper on “secular.”  Now, honestly, I don’t know what the fuck we are celebrating on Thanksgiving! Maybe we can change the holiday to Gratitude Day. A day for everyone to express gratitude in their lives for whatever it is that they have to be grateful for. A national healing day of sorts.

And let’s make it in September when it’s still fairly nice out and it doesn’t serve as the lead into the Christmas season which has its own massive list of problems.

I don’t know, I’m not happy or thankful this week. We just had another mass shooting in Colorado at an LGBTQ night club. What is up with Colorado? My marriage is falling apart because we are bored and tired. My mother has retreated into her own little world.  And my dogs? Well, they are fine but there’s this, in case you missed it.

New title to my memoirs: My dogs are fine, but I’m not.

People are with their families who they hate. Addiction issues are at their worst to deal with said families. We overindulge in everything, and then we feel guilty and have to make up for it for the next week. Turkeys are traumatized – or dead.

Do we really need this holiday? I vote, no. I vote we revamp our entire calendar of holidays. One day a month off to celebrate whatever the fuck we want to celebrate. We rarely have something to celebrate en masse, so just give us the choice. I’m starting a movement: #holidayliberation the freedom to define your own celebration! Who’s in?
